Windows 10 pro Startup folder - program not starting

All my computers are standalone, not on a domain.

I used to put program in the startup folder using
start | run shell:startup and this used to work until a recent windows update. Although some machines work others don't

I've found the only reliable way to get a program to start at boot login is to use task scheduler.

Am I missing something, or do I have to use task scheduler to run a batch file/ powershell script of the commands I want started at boot / login ?

Programs requiring admin rights can't be launched directly like that.

Things have changed a bit regarding how the startup menu works.

Could you perhaps expand on that- presumably regarding build 1903, which I'll shortly try upgrading to? Thanks!

Post #2 explains it in your links. With the changes from 7 to 8 to 10, Using the startup folder relies on you elevating privileges for a program. We went through this discussion in https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/92698-windows-10-doesnt-use-startup-folder.html

Thanks, I was just wondering if you had some further change in 1903 in mind.

One change is that the Start Menu now is isolated with its own process, which can affect those items placed into the Startup folder.
