    You could keep your data in Excel files, if you had the patience to transfer them all, and if you where familiar with the relevant functions to compute stuff. That's why others prefer Money, to make their life easier. Excel is much more difficult without proper expertise.

    Excel would work but it really depends since Money tells me almost in real time how much money I have, with slightly delayed figures on the gains/losses and even my sold securities will still be available for lookup. This is the reason people use Money and not Quicken.
