Hi bobjoe, Your link does not have a way to reinstall Microsoft apps.
Reinstall Default Built-in Apps in Windows 10 https://thomas.vanhoutte.be/miniblog...ndows-10-apps/

Link not working. Here's another one that let's you uninstall or re-install all or indiv apps. As noted, Edge and Cortana can not be un-installed- How to Uninstall Windows 10s Built-in Apps (and How to Reinstall Them)

Thanks for letting me know about the bad link in my post, I replaced it. Seems to be working now.

I did find this link to Tenforums Tutorial on removing Apps in Windows 10, this seems more comprehensive than any other link I have found. TENFORUMS tutorials almost always are better than other sites. It's worth a look.

These seem very, very, very useless to me and i want them off my pc because they cause an annoyance to me
    >inb4 op, cortana and edge are superior, op, why do you want to uninstall them?

please just tell me how to locate these programs in my registry to get them the hell off my pc. Thanks! :)

I found this from another user, it worked! I would rename (to say, ME and MECP) instead of delete, and if you ever want to reverse the changes, just rename it back to MicrosoftEdge and MicrosoftEdgeCP to what it was originally!

To do the things below, you need to edit the permissions first. Google 'how to access system apps folder in windows' and you'll see articles on how to edit the permission (so that you can change things yourself in the folder).

Navigate to the Windows Apps install location:

    C:\Windows\SystemApps\
And right-click the Microsoft Edge folder, Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe, and select Properties, where you can set the folder and all its contents to Read-Only (make sure the checkbox shows a checkmark, not a square). This will prevent Windows from making changes to the folder.
Then, you can open the folder and rename the Microsoft Edge executables (MicrosoftEdge.exeand MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe) and/or delete them. I would rename them.

Just wondering what happens next time you run sfc \scannow, or there's an update for these. Or an in-place repair install. E.g.
I'd assume they reappeared... so probably best just ignored and left to gather digital dust.

I just told it "Not Now" when I set up Windows 10 and it doesn't bother me at all. Same with Edge; I made Firefox my default browser and Adobe Reader my default PDF reader so it doesn't bother me any more either. :)

You can't "Uninstall" edge or Cortana. Just unpin and hide Edge from the start menu and taskbar, and turn Cortana off.

How do i uninstall Microsoft Edge and Cortana

    Go to C:\Windows\SystemApps

One of the folders in SystemApps refers to Edge and another refers to Cortana.
Read carefully the folder names and there will be no doubt.
Take ownership of the folders and grant yourselves full control
I will show you this for one folder
    Elevated CMD prompt
    >takeown /f C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Enter
    >icacls C:\Windows\SystemApps\
    Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe /grant administrators:f
    Enter
Double-click the folder (open it) to see all the files
What we are looking for are Applications NOT Apllication Extensions
Inside the Edge folder you will find two applications that make Edge work.
    MicrosoftEdge.exe and MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe
If you want to you have the full permission to delete these. But, JIC you want to use them afterwards . . .
Rename those files as .old (instead of the .exe) If you want to go back simply rename them back to .exe

Do the same procedure with the Cortana folder

Thank you for the commands, I think they are going to be very useful. I didn't know you can take ownership with the command line. It seems much easier to me than using the GUI.

They are very useful. For example when you cannot delete a folder or a file or both because the system will not allow it and there is no way to change permissions in the Security tab of the item's Properties.
