Same problem here on a fresh install of Windows 10, version 1803 (17134.191). I have added the key in both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to no avail. I rely on jumplists much more than...
Not sure why it's not working for you. One thing you can try is resetting your jumplists to see if that helps. Note that this will get rid of any pinned and recent items currently on the lists:

Nice find!
Add both and play with the numbers until you get the balance you want.
Follow the instructions above and you'll be able to pin as many items as your little heart desires.
They are under HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
Start_JumpListItems should be there, JumpListItems_Maximum needs to be manually added as a DWORD.
I set both to 15, which oddly gives me 19 items per jumplist.
Keith, you did it!!! This works. And this does regulate the maximum sum of recent items + pinned items. I had to play with both JumpListItems_Maximum and Start_JumpListItems to get the jumplists...
Try manually adding both keys, restart Explorer and then try manually drag more than 6 files into their corresponding taskbar application.
You can drag files onto the application icon in the task bar to pin them. For example, if you are pinning documents to Word, you can drag .docx files from explorer to the Word icon on the task bar.
Also, have you tried actually "pinning" more than 10 files onto a jumplist? I only get 11 or 12 "recent" files on a jumplist regardless of the size set in the registry, but if I actually pin more,...
Sorry to hear that. You may want to try clearing the jump lists by deleting the files in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations and changing the jump list size when they are...
So I tried changing Start_JumpListItems many times before, and for some reason it never worked - the list size was limited to 10 files regardless of what was in the key. In fact, my...
That's good news - it means the OS still supports that setting on the new task bar somewhere in the registry.
Can you post a screenshot of your registry entries under...
Can you post a screenshot please?
Are you getting 20 items on your jump list? I don't think the new taskbar is capable of that setting. I upgraded from 8.1 with that setting and only have 10.
Correct, anything that is not searchable in the start menu cannot be pinned. The start menu treats it as if it doesn't exist.
It would literally take a Microsoft programmer less than 30 minutes to reimplement the code and package an update. That's the most frustrating part.
It's pretty unfortunate when they take away good options in newer versions of Windows. I hope they bring this back in near future updates.
It sounds like the same exact symptoms?
Microsoft has announced that they are working on it. There are tons of threads on this bug, and the consensus is that it affects systems that have more than 512 items in the start menu, and...
As far as I know it has been unlimited in previous Windows versions. This is bug/oversight unique to Win 10 that Microsoft has announced it is working on fixing. There should be an update...
Yep, the registry entry is useless in Windows 10. It's also pretty sloppy that Microsoft didn't clean up useless registry keys from older versions of Windows.
Yeah, its a shame, they seem to have removed the feature for customizing the number of items in the jump list. In 7 and 8 you could do it from the taskbar settings or directly in the registry. The...
I'm not sure it's 512 apps, I'm pretty sure it's 512 items in the start menu. I don't have that many apps installed and this bug is affecting me big time. Keep in mind that on a blank windows...
