Ah, okay. Bit of a bummer. Thanks.
So I upgraded 7 to 10. Could I use the 7 key I just upgraded to 10 on another machine and upgrade that one as well?
Awesome. Thanks for letting me know.
Great! So, it won't affect my main PC install of 10 activation-wise? That would make things so much simpler.
I need to do an upgrade install of windows 10 on another computer. I already have a windows 10 iso burned to disc. Since this is a new type of activation, where it's tied to the mobo, can I just use...
Yeah, searching around, it involves screwing with the registry, which I don't want to do. I'll look around some more. Thanks.
Usually, Windows gives me an option to name my account. In 10, it just uses a shortened name of my Microsoft Account username/email address. Is there a way to change it without messing up my system?...
Okay, I gotcha. So if I decided to switch mobos or whatever, I would first have to install 8.1, pop in the 10 disc and do an upgrade install? Think I prefer the product key at this point. lol
...
I see. Sort of like OEM installs? Tied to the mobo? Interesting. So they're doing away with product keys? Thanks for the help.
Hey Brink,
Sorry I posted this in the wrong section. Wasn't sure exactly where to put it. So I can do the upgrade install, get the 10 key, and then do a clean install afterward?
I have a copy of 10 reserved, but what if I lose my patience and download an ISO from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
I don't have a 10 product key yet, so...
I have 8.1. For future reinstallation, I downloaded and burned an ISO from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media
What I want to know is if this will work...
Was thinking it's for either one or the other and it would work, rather than having two slots for two cards. I'll try it out.
Back to the Future 2 lied to us. The movie stated that we'd have...
Great. I'll look into this. This is the drive I was talking about:
http://www.iogear.com/product/GFR204SD/
It can use micro sd or sd cards.
Thanks
I don't know. I just know that when I tried installing 8.1 via usb, it seemed super slow. I have usb 2.0. Maybe there were other factors, I dunno. Was using one of the two ports up front. The other...
Much prefer using discs to install Windows. I just burn the iso and I'm good. USB is painfully slow for me. Not to mention, I'd rather just pop a disc in than load it on the usb drive.
I hope it works out and being free makes more people migrate from 7. It'll only benefit everyone when people move on to newer things.
I'm assuming it's just like the deals we got for 7 and 8. When it first releases, you would get an upgrade deal for about $30 and then it's yours. It's that, only free this time.
I used WinaeroTweaker and set paddedborderwidth to 0. Just checked in the registry and it's 0. The border is thinner, but no where near Windows 10 thinner. Oh well. Not a big deal. Thanks.
How did you thicken the borders in 10? Is there a way to change that in 8? I tried using WinAero, but I can't get the borders to be as thin as Windows 10's.
Only game I've tried on build 10041 is Skyrim. The funny thing is, it actually seems more stable in 10 than 8. I had no crashes whatsoever in 10, yet it was crashing like crazy in 8 (though became...
It is a little bland. The taskbar doesn't even have transparency anymore. I liked Aero and although I was disappointed that they took it out of 8, I was fine with the way 8 looked. They seem to be...
Doesn't build 10049 have problems running on a VM? I'm guessing the slow ring versions would be a bit more stable for use.
Linux Mint is actually pretty good. I used that for a little while, but the lack of driver support (my soundcard) is what made me switch back to Windows. That and some games.
The watch works too. lol
Had a couple of major hiccups. First was that was hanging for a while upon reboot. Had the Windows icon but no loading circle-thingy (still not awake. lol). It finally did...
