Installed from DVD, unplugged the drives for D: & E: first. Installed the drivers, got it on my network and now it's downloading updates. Fingers crossed!
BTW my BIOS is well behind the latest, I'm on F5, not sure if I should flash it - all the changes seem to be to do with the APU AGESA. My mobo is v3.0, and at least two of the updates are for new...
None of my user files are in C: - mostly they are in E: - so I don't have to keep my files. I was planning unplugging the D: and E: drives before updating. I used the W7 method for relocating user...
I have come back to this having sorted out my Office 2013 situation, still no joy - I uninstalled lots more software, but I think either a clean reinstall or a reset is required. Does it make any...
Before you faff around downgrading, I take it there isn't a driver on the Brother website. However I found that the list of printers in windows 10 can be updated, in the window where you pick the...
I posted the complete error report so if you didn't see it, 'hashing' is not there. I'm not using a domain, nor an email account.
I'll uninstall VS and have one more go with everything possible...
Nothing useful came up on Google, as I only had one piffling database I uninstalled SQL Server and got a completely different error log:
2016-10-16 11:44:15, Error ...
Still not working. I reran sfc /scannow and it was fine. This is all of the setuperr.log.
2016-10-14 15:57:09, Error [SetupHost.exe] IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY failed:...
The scannow found some errors the first time, the second time it was fine. I'll have another go with the disk after refreshing my backups:
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Forgot to mention the chkdsk C: /F was fine. Will do the second command tomorrow.
No luck, got Windows 10 installation failed, but the system is still useable.
setuperr.log:
2016-10-13 16:28:52, Error [SetupHost.exe] IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY failed:...
No, not had time, it will take some time to do the download, but I'll look in the error log & MS post.
I can't find an exact error message - if I could I would have Googled it. Where should it be, please? I've looked in Event Viewer.
The title says it all. If I look in the Windows logs in the event viewer there is nothing that looks to be to do with it.
I do the restart & install updates. It restarts, and I get progress...
Thanks. I will have to pass this on to the owner of the laptop as I use mine not his!
What would I be looking for in the Passmark screens?
The output from chkdsk:
X:\Sources>chkdsk c: /r
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is Acer.

I think we are OK, very sure if chkdsk & Seatools say it's OK. I'll look for a SMART reader. Speccy is a great little utility and the disks in my own PC all have a nice green 'good' next to all of...
Doh! Forgot to plug it in while it was doing chkdsk so I've had to start it again! I also noticed the second Seatools disk I burnt took a lot less time than the first one, so I should be able to...
Had problems booting from the Seatools disk I burnt, so I've booted it from the W10 disk and chkdsk is running in the CMD screen you can get to from the Repair option. No errors so far, it's on...
I can get into windows now, and the second time it ran a lot faster. There is nothing for it in the event log. I will look into seatools though.
I have a friend's laptop in my care at present. 'something' had happened to it, it wouldn't boot and when I tried to fix it through repair with a W10 CD, I got that the disk was locked. I found...
I've found it also imports equally happily from my phone and my camera, and whilst the tagging works it's not as easy as the Photo Gallery for a variety of reasons. However I can live with it.
Not wanting to faff with another user account, though I can see where you are coming from. The one I am using is only a few days old.
Not going to install drivers from an unknown to me source.
