Thanks so much for all of the help axe0 and McFailboat
With the BIOS update, I am now playing with no issues.
FML.
LESSON LEARNED, anyone with the ASROCK Z170 Pro 4 Motherboard having BSOD (with 6600K CPU and 970 GTX GPU) should update their BIOS.
I'll try that before trying W8.1.
This looks really promising!
I have V1.10, patch notes are:
2.0: Improve system stability
2.2: Improve DRAM compatibility
2.5: 1. Support DDR4 OC
2....
After messing around with BIOS, resetting it to default, setting USB 3.0 from Enabled to Auto and some other USB setting to Enabled (legacy ports?), I was able to finally use my mouse and keyboard...
Tried that just now, didn't help. Still crashing.
How do I tell if it's the motherboard?
I've stress tested my RAM, my CPU and my GPU, (which should stress my PSU too, right?), but how do I test my MOBO?
If I still have issues after that, I'm going to presume all hardware is faulty and head back to the comp shop for a refund/change.
I'll let you know either way.
I'll just download a copy from the Microsoft website when I have the time to do the reinstall (like I said, ~2 weeks away).
DotA 2 definitely does not have DRM (free game, Steam required for install however)
Same with MGSV, as far as I can tell.
I think I'm going back to Windows 7 in a couple of weeks. This is...
Playing smaller games like Risk of Rain (or other Roguelike type games) does not cause crashes. I've played Risk of Rain (also installed via Steam) for hours without crashing earlier this week.
Yes games installed via Steam, literally nothing else during playing, except maybe alt-tabbing to Facebook chat, as I got rid of my second monitor a while back due to issues. (Yes I tried playing...
Yep, still crashing without Chrome.
Still got the issue: 44542
Darndest thing, If I BSOD I sometimes repeatedly get BSODs when booting in for a while after that (~2-3 times, as things are loading).
I'm trying uninstalling Chrome...
If you click on it the full resolution is as per the original size, there is no compression here.
Done (specs changed, attaching pic): 43647
I have also experienced crashed playing Men of War Assault Squad 2 and whilst compiling shaders for the Unreal Engine 4...
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and DotA 2.
Crashing in two separate games, the only graphically intensive ones I'm playing atm (the others are rogue-likes).
Had to leave the house after first ~hour of testing, so left it on all day (temp was ok, stable @~40) - over 12 hours no issues.
Next step?
Well, DotA doesn't work in safe mode and neither does MGSV, so I'm not sure how to test the second part.
Ok... did that and started playing MGSV. Went ok for about half an hour, then froze. Didn't blue screen, didn't crash just the program, the whole computer froze on a single frame and just went on...
All I could find: 4284142840
Next step?
Running for ages now, no crash, adding log: 42767
Here's the first crash log: 42515
