Thank you!
The current drive is a Samsung EVO 500GB; the new build will have a 2TB WD SN850X NVMe
Thank you for your input. I don't yet have a image/clone software. Any suggestion?
I am in the process of building a new computer and would like to migrate my current dual-boot (Windows 10 Pro/Linux Mint) to it. My current primary drive is a 500GB SSD, which I've partitioned to...
I have not yet but I will make a system image. I do have Macrium Reflect so that'll be easy enough. Once again, thank you for your help.
Best Wishes,
Jon
Hi Denis. I just completed repairing my Windows install and did a manual update. It all went flawlessly, in no small part due to your assistance and the excellent guides on this forum. It's a...
Hi Denis. Thank you for the detailed instructions. I did actually download the latest 21H2 ISO last night following the instructions from Download Windows 10 ISO images with latest updates. Can I use...
Hi Denis. Thank you for your reply. I performed the reset, which went successfully. After the machine rebooted, I attempted to update Windows again but, once again, it failed. Same behavior as...
Compumind, I did a Selective startup with all startup items and non-Microsoft services disabled. Attempted an update online via "Windows Update". It failed. I then tried it locally using the...
Thank you. I'll try this and report back. Best Regards.
I've been having quite a bit of trouble lately installing Windows (Build: 19043.1288) updates. The latest is KB5012599. Whenever I try to install it, the progress bar goes to 20% and hangs there for...
Further update: I decided to go ahead and completely remove Bitdefender IS and, lo and behold, all the blinking and cranking and grinding have come to a halt. My system is once again enjoying that...
My apologies good friend. I misspoke in my earlier post. Turning off 3rd-party services did indeed stop the disk activity spikes. I was also able to isolate the application (CleanMyPC Watcher) that...
FreeBooter, I did as you suggested and rebooted. The problem persisted. I noticed that the Bitdefender services remained checked when I turned off all non-Microsoft related services in the steps...
Thank you, FreeBooter. I was about to head off to bed. I'll give Clean Boot a try in the AM and report back to you. G'night.
Definitely not there in Safe Mode. So you think maybe the antivirus is the culprit? That was the the change that preceded this strange behavior.
I do not know what process(es) are generating those spikes, and when I look at my running processes it's hard for me discern a pattern. Nothing really stands out as the potential culprit. Here's a...
Thank you, Bree. But even if I shut down the processes generating the most disk activities, such as the browsers and what not, those periodic spikes on the various drives don't disappear. If you look...
Something weird happened today. I have a bunch of internal and external (eSAT and USB 3.0) drives on my Windows 10 (64bit) system. They all started flashing intermittently this afternoon. I did a...
UPDATE: I did that. Deleted all the partitions, created two new ones, put the drive back into the laptop and did a clean install. Everything is good good good. Thank you!
P.P.S What if I deleted the System Reserved and OS partitions, formated the unassigned space, stuck it back into the laptop and attempted another clean install?
I really have gotten myself into a bind here. Yesterday, I went to install Win 10 on an old laptop that I use for just browsing the web, and the kid uses to do homework, and sometimes play Starcraft....
Thank you, man. I'll uninstall KIS and try out Avast. I'll report back with my findings.
Yes, that would seem to be an obvious thing to try, but I'm not that clever. ;) I will now tho.
This is insane! My security software are what's killing the speed. With Malwarebytes running by itself, I take a 300 Mbps hit. With Kaspersky Internet Security running, I take a 600 Mbps hit. (And it...
