so i ended up installing ubuntu 17.10.1 on my computer, which allowed me to install grsync- makes sense to me that you can't install a program while running a live session from a CD.. so i ran grsync...
ok thanks!
i tried this from the ubuntu 17.10 live cd, can't get it to work- ubuntu software shows no results for GRSYNC (i can search for and find other stuff) and firefox can't resolve the above link- do i...
ideally, i'd like to get everything copied over in one shot, so if i can keep everything as is then that would be great.
i'm using the default file manager in ubuntu (sorry, can't remember the...
do you know of another linux option that can get past this?
hello! i'm trying to copy a folder (using file explorer) from my USB drive (NTFS) that contains linux files, to my NAS drive (EXT4). the copy process stops on a file with ":" in the file name and...
thanks, i was thinking about those options as well.. doesn't seem like there's an easy fix for this, more of a manual approach- unless i can find some tool that supports the long path names..
i've though about that, but would get cumbersome if you're dealing with many folders.
yes i have tried a Ubuntu live cd, it does get past the long files names, unfortunately is fails on "symbolic links" which i assume refers to link or shortcut files.
folder copies with nested files and folders exceeding the 255 character limit- the challenge is when you're copying GB's worth of data, only to have windows explorer halt on a long file name hours...
thanks, so windows explorer does not currently support the long file names option? are there any alternatives to explorer built into windows 10 (besides robocopy) that support long file names?
hello! i'm trying to copy files from an external USB drive (NTFS) to a NAS drive (EXT4) using Windows Explorer and getting the long file names error (ie path is longer than 255 characters). i have...
i'm getting gradually baffled by this to be honest.. seems like a FAT32 issue based on my readings, more specifically maybe related to large files (like 4+ GB). as a test, i formatted a spare 60GB...
thanks for the response! i don't have another storage device at the moment, and the USB drive has 500 GB of data in total so DVDs and cloud storage probably wouldn't work.
if this is in fact just...
hello!
for some reason, after doing some successful folder copies (ie no errors) from my external USB drive to my RAID 1 NAS, the contents of some source folders and their respective destination...
so i tried installing windows 7 and then doing an upgrade to 10, just to see if that would work.
unfortunately it wasn't successful; see attached screenshot for error details.. 52625

i checked the Asus website, the board isn't listed.. i still don't get how the hardware could have been affected- i've been in IT for years and have never seen a USB device "damage" other hardware-...
Hey all,
I’ve got an issue with installing Windows 10 Pro 32bit on my computer where I try to clean install windows, and after the first restart when it’s doing the ‘getting devices ready’ part, I...
Figured it out.. discovered that the disk wipe method used in parted magic makes a difference.
You can do secure (just writes 0's to the drive) or enhanced wipe (writes predetermined patters to...
you did an install of windows 7 64 bit and did a repair install to get windows 10 installed? not sure i follow..
i misquoted my Coreinfo results earlier, mine has the "-" and not the "*". Does...
So should I look further into my Coreinfo and AIDA64 results? I wonder if one reporting supported means that there's a BIOS setting or something else that needs to be changed? I'm hopeful...
I tried both Coreinfo and AIDA64 (I used Extreme instead of Engineer) on my AMD4000+ system, Coreinfo reports CX16 * Supports CMPXCHG16B instruction, while AIDA64 reports that it is not supported.

assuming the controller is set to RAID in the BIOS, i've already tried the latest RAID driver from Intel's website; HP only provides a Windows 7 driver, which i've also tried, but i'll certainly...
did that, tried both the latest drivers from HP and Intel websites, including every version available when you use the load driver/browse option from the installation disc.
i don't think the...
