The file C:\$Extend\$RmMetadata is an old Windows system file. Windows doesn't use this but it's not safe to delete since some of your applications...

When did this start?
AFAIK it is recent, or has only recently become a problem requiring the installation of apps to facilitate safe removal of external drives.

Seems Lockhunter is from the same stable, so I'll take a look at it.

I use an external HDD for backups.
Lately safe removal of this disk has become impossible.

One of the "Samsung smart" TVs in the house has just a single USB port but multiple HDMI ports.
That single USB does not support a USB hub, so connecting more than one USB device is not possible.

I was using VMWare because it was touted as the way to go.

From what you've said I'd think that the issue lies with the Epson software rather than Picasa 3.
I have Version 3.1.141.259 which works just fine with Windows 10.
