+1 super annoying :D
Thanks for all your insight and advice. Unfortunately going balls deep into the internals of the PC is too much for me to handle right now, so I'm either going to have to install Ubuntu or simply...
I've tried a few different Windows XP ISOs now and they all won't boot, unlike the Windows 10 ISO which did boot but unfortunately crashed along the way. Very odd.
Unfortunately seeing as how my current Windows installation is messed up there's no way for me to actually run that tool.
I'm not sure. Can't find anything about it in the URL above or in the BIOS. All I know is that it's a Pentium 4 3,2GHz with Hyper Threading technology.
I have this old HP Compaq Pentium 4 whose Windows XP installation recently got hit by malware, so I'm trying to install Windows 10 on it:

Hi!
It appears the reason is that I've disabled automatic updates, and disabling the login screen background image is something only available to recent updates.
Big ups to the RibbonDisabler...
Nope, I kept DWM if I recall correctly.
If others could confirm that ClassicTheme.exe doesn't work on Windows Home edition, that would be great.
Thanks!
Yes sir!
Some other modifications I've done:
- Classic Shell: Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements
- Ribbon Disabler: Ribbon Disabler for Windows 8
Nope, no policies, and seeing pretty much the same backgrounds as always. I'm on Windows 10 Pro as well.

Hi!
Does anyone know how to make ones login screen solid color? I tried the regfix at How to Change the Login Screen Background on Windows 10 but it doesn't seem to work here in Windows 10 Pro.

Greetings everyone I seem to have found a little bit of luck. The old driver I was attempting to install was one I'd manually downloaded. I had no luck installing that, but choosing Update Driver =>...
Pardon me sir but I meant Device Installation in gpedit.msc. The stuff you're referring to has no effect in this case, I've disabled Windows Update in gpedit.msc temporarily anyway. Thanks!
That was the idea right, to block the new drivers from being installed so the old drivers can remain in place?
Many thanks!
Ok, I managed to access Device Installation.
I tried preventing the installation of my device (the newer version, signed by Microsoft) based on the device ID I got from the driver details, however...
That doesn't work unfortunately.
Can somebody confirm that gpedit.msc => Computer Configuration => Administrative Templates => System => Device Installation exists in Windows 10 Pro?
Contents of Administrative Templates => System:
Setting State
User Profiles
Scripts
Logon
Disk Quotas
Net Logon
Group Policy
Appears gpedit.msc doesn't exist in Windows 10 Home. I had to download and install it manually, but inside Administrative Templates => System there is no Device Installation (even if I run gpedit.msc...
Actually how do I run gpedit.msc? I'm on Windows 10 Home and Start => Run => gpedit.msc doesn't seem to work.
Thanks Simple, I'll give that a go! One sec.
Hello and thank you for your reply!
I've done steps 1-7. I rebooted using "Disable driver signature enforcement" and installed my old driver, which has now been replaced by the new driver again....
