Lenovo ideapad 520 - Booting 6 minutes! Windows toolkit

    Hello friends,

I´m confused about my laptop booting. As I read in this forum I did Windows toolkit analysis - Boot time CPU and disk usage. I discovered that it is about 400 seconds to boot. I analyse my recorded file but can´t find what can cause that. It´s terrible to wait up to 7 minutes to load my windows. Anyone of you. Can you look at this Windows Performance Analysis and give me some great solution?

    Thanks very for your help.

Hi, there have been a couple of similar threads very recently.

    See
    Boot slower overtime on SSD
for some approaches and an example of one outcome. Your case may be different of course.
    Another:
Slow Boot on Fresh Install with SSD (3-5min+)

What disks are present in your PC?

The forum prompted you to enter your build number so we don't have to keep asking for it.
    What is your build number?

    History: (most posters omit this).
    When did this start happening?
Did you make any hardware changes?
    Was there a related update?
Anything else you can think of?

I have HDD 2TB ST2000LM007-1R8174 installed on my laptop.
    It´s Lenovo Ideapad 520 15-IKB, 80YL00NACK, OS Build: 10.0.18363
It takes so long, but i did not solve it.
    No hardware changes.
There were not any update. This problem lasts about one year.

So If i know that I installed something, I would uninstall it, but I didn´t install nothing. Drivers are up to date.

How long is your boot time
    a. to lock screen
    b. from logging in to desktop and to 'idle' where the task manager shows little activity (hopefully)?

Noted you have a HDD. You could expect 1.5-2mins to lock screen, say.

Seems to be a laptop from around 2018, so relatively new.
    You say:
    There were not any update.
    - no updates in a year? Have you disabled Windows Update or is it not working?

Please run these checks on your disk:

    a. Download and install HDTune v2.55 free and use the Health and Error scan tabs and report the results.
    b. If ok, then run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt.

@zinou - Hi, sorry, another WPA post.. any chance? Thanks!

So I am really nervous about my laptop. It takes much more time than I expected.

    As my watches measured:
    It´s 2minutes 30 second to load to Lock-screen
And Another 8 minutes from lock-screen to idle status (then disk is not in 100% usage)
To sum up It is 10,5 minutes to fully load.

Yes, there were updates from Windows update, but this problem lasts about one year. So I were using hibernate mode. Sometimes shutdown too, but everytime I use shutdown, I must leave my laptop and cook lunch or dinner.

    CHKDSK OK.

Actually the times aren't so terrible for a HDD - a bit slow to the lock screen- after that it depends on your startups. Good that the disk is ok.

Try a clean boot (Google or see tutorial if unsure) and compare times. (Shouldn't affect time to lock screen much).

this problem lasts about one year
    - how long do you recall it taking?

Time to lockscreen 2 min 30 sec.
Time from lockscreen to idle 3 minutes.
Its half if we compare clean boot and full boot.

One year ago it was okay I think. As I mentoined I were solving it with hibernate mode. But I want to solve it now definitely.

I'll assume you're concerned about the time to boot to lock screen, as you haven't said which concerns you, or what 'OK'
    means in minutes and seconds.

From the links I posted earlier, I have selected this:

    Meanwhile you might try
Use Verbose Boot Messages to Troubleshoot Windows Startup Problems

There's an option to make the list visible on the screen during booting- use that.

Also from those links, disable Fast Startup.

Watch closely as your PC boots and note any that take a long time. This may give you a clue.
(Perhaps zinou may look at your WPR log at some point)

    I tried. Nothing unusual happened.

Loading drivers was so fast. I did not recognize any delay. It all takes about 10-15 seconds.

Booting stucks about 1 and half minute at Lenovo screen (rotating circle) - at this time nothing was displayed - only lenovo logo and rotating circle.

Then it transform to windows loading - all mesages where shown so quickly - about 10 seconds.
One delay at the end - about 15 seconds during "Loading Local Session Manager".

Then it displayed lockscreen and after it very looong loading of desktop (black screen>down bar>icons>services (sound, wifi, touchpad icon). This takes about 6 minutes to Idle status (no 100% usage in task manager).

I hope @zinou can help me by analyzing Windows toolkit.

Edit: Fast Startup disabled earlier. Hope it can solve, but not.

    Hi,

I'll take a look at your boot trace. At first glance, your HDD is spinning like crazy !
    Check in the Windows Events log if there is any warnings or errors related to the disk;

There is a newer version (Feb 2020) available on the Lenovo Website.
Update the driver and see if it helps.

    Run the V2 and DM collector and upload the result;
