    Try upgrading the bios

Same problem- new Toshiba laptop would not sleep, even after factory reset.
Tried everything I could find online - no fix. Toshiba online support suggested a few things I'd already tried, then said take it to a local repairer.

They upgraded the bios - from 1.0 to 2.0, which solved the problem. Also - it was running hot, with the fan always going, CPA, RAM and HDD usage often approaching 100%, and short battery life.
After the bios upgrade battery life has tripled and it runs fast, quiet and cool.

Same problem after upgrading a Lenovo T400s laptop from Win7 to 10. I ran the powercfg -lastwake command and found that a USB device was causing the reboots. I moved my USB mouse to a different port and that solved the problem.

Thanks for all of the replies and helpful information.

I updated the BIOS which didn't help.

Finally, I just decided to restore the computer to factory settings, install all updates, and reinstalling Windows 10.

    It sleeps now!

I'm having the same issue and would greatly appreciate any help. Pretty new Dell XPS 9350 laptop with Windows 10 Home. When I manually put the computer to sleep or hibernate, the screen and all the lights turn off, then it automatically wakes up about 5-10 seconds later. Here's what I've done so far to try to fix the problem:

    • disabled "allow device to wake computer" for all network adapters
    • unchecked "allow wake timers"
    • disconnected all usb devices
    • powercfg lastwake command shows "Wake History [0]". I think what's happening is that the computer never fully goes to sleep, so it registers as zero.
    • "powercfg /energy" entered at the command prompt produced this report (can download and open in browser): energy-report.html - Google Drive

I'm trying to avoid having to do a full windows reinstall, but don't know of anything else to try. When I put my laptop in my bag, I find sometimes it's hot, having woken up a few seconds after I put it to sleep, and had been running for hours already!

@jubeison, are you putting your Laptop in your bag with it on? The reason why I am asking is because my late friend's wife put her Laptop in her bag and it messed it up pretty badly. They had to replace a part in it. So, I wouldn't recommend putting it in the bag with it on. Always power down the computer, and then put the Laptop in the bag. As far as your computer not going to sleep, I don't know what to suggest other than doing a reinstall of Windows. You could override the Google Drive issue by entering (Powercfg -requests override) to see if that will help. Maybe wait and see if someone else can chime in to help.

P.S I think that's the command for the override function to work. Not sure!

Hi Jesse, oh thanks. I don't intentionally put the laptop in my bag powered on. I put it to sleep, then put it in my bag, and apparently the laptop automatically wakes a few seconds later. but yeah, I'm gonna be more mindful. I certainly don't wanna mess up my laptop! Thanks again :)

btw, I got the problem fixed thankfully. after trying the suggestions in this thread, I updated all the outdated drivers and the BIOS. that fixed it. it was easy w/ dell. I just went to their support website, it downloaded "system detect" which automatically figured out which drivers needed updating, and even bulk downloaded and installed them

Wow, that was a nice neat solution.

    Well done you and Dell.

    The problem is solved now!
    By change the Power Options
On the “Power Options” screen, you want to expand each setting and ensure that they allow the computer to go to sleep mode. In my case, the setting under “Multimedia settings” > “When sharing media” was set to “Prevent idling to sleep“. I had to set this to “Allow the computer to sleep“.

I may be having the same problem! The sleep and hibernate options seem to close down the system, then seconds or minutes later, everything wakes up again! Before I get to the PC everything closes down again.

I believe that there is no stability yet and that these options should not be used with Windows 10 beta versions.
I'm having the same problem.. My pc is going off to sleep but no way to put it on again, I've to restart it ..
