I think you meant Macrium ? or Did you mean Acronis ? :) Macrium is better I personally think....

IF you use WLM , you can save the whole WLM Folder to your External and just bring it back later....

You can also save a Copy of the "Desktop Folder" to you external Drive

While on the Clean install ...yes delete ALL existing Partitions 1st on the SSD , then click NEXT ( or new sometimes) and Windows will make all the new partitions as needed.

It does not really matter if you install Macrium to C: Drive now , you can just reinstall it once you have the clean install Done.

*** Make sure to make the RESCUE CD/USB though it is VERY important so you can restore Images from Outside Windows if something Fails.

Image the Whole SSD to your External Drive , don't just use the Windows Backup Option in Macrium as in this case you are going to wipe the WHOLE Drive on clean install , so you may need to Restore the WHOLE drive if it goes sideways... ( it would not boot otherwise )

I see belt and braces is a saying
good use of a search engine.. use both a belt and braces to keep your trousers up.. otherwise known as working redundancy, I guess..
    - a safe way of ensuring a good outcome... secure.

Let's check - do you have any data partitions on your SSD?

Can you tell me how to check for data partitions. Does it make a difference if I am reformatting?

Here is a screen shot of disk management if it will help.

Hi, I can just make that out with a magnifying glass.. it doesn't expand as usual.
As far as I can see, you have a UEFI installation with Windows related partitions split across at least 2 physical disks. Maybe more- as there will be a 16Mb one which disk management doesn't show.

You want to get all those partitions on a single disk. Sorry- I'm off to bed!
