"optimize drives" Pass 31: Is this normal?

Title says it all, I'm doing a disk defragment (even though It was only 2% fragmented, is that bad?) and It's been going for hours and is now at Pass 31. It's also moving very slowly.

I defrag a lot, like, probably once every 2 months, is that bad for the computer?

Anyways, is it normal to go all the way to pass 31?

Edit: my disk is 500 gb and is only about half full.

Every full disk defrag makes it work like few months of normal work, so you judge. Furthermore, 2% of fragmentation is nothing, 10 -20% may have some slowdown effects but can't really feel it. Starting with W7, windows fragments drives very little, I haven't defraged HDDs since I installed W7 and than went to W8 and now on W10 and it never went over 2%. There's also automatic maintenance that defrags and moves some files around when computer is idle.

    Hi,

Anyways, is it normal to go all the way to pass 31?
If it reaches at that many passes then that suggests it's trying to move some fragments that were or are still in use.
As Countmike suggests, best it to just set to automatic defrag and just let it do its thing.

    Cheers,

Try Glary Utilities | Glarysoft it shows better what's happening during defrag and it's faster than windows one.
