How to retrieve Data & License off Windows System Image.

Hi all, this is part two, to the thread "System Image Problem",

I have not been able to do a System Image restore to my computer, for when the process gets to the very end, It tells me that the process failed and give the error "0x80070057: Parameter is incorrect". After numerous attempts, as seen in the last thread, I've not been able to retrieve the system.

I've done a clean install and used the free edition of Macrium Reflect and backed up a System Image and then restored it with no problems what so ever, great program that, so now I have to retrieve the information from the image manually, and hope for the best, so here goes.

I've been able to attach the image file in disk management to a VHD so I can look at it and drag and drop, but this brings up a lot of questions on how to do this and be able to retrieve not only data but licenses too, maybe. I've read that Macrium can also access the file and restore them, but that will be an lesson in futility, I think at this point.

I tried to copy all the files of the image back to c:\ drive but I forgot that it won't copy directories that already exist. So much for that idea!

Here's what I'm attempting at the present. I'm coping all the Sys Img files to a directory on an expansion drive, so I can have them handy. I will boot from the system install USB that I have, do a shift + F10 to access the command prompt, type in Diskpart and clean Disk 0. Then I plan to copy all the files, stored on the external drive back to Disk 0, Par 1.

    Wish me luck
