I'm getting a head start in case you get on early.

Can you post camera pics to your thread from your phone?

There will be steps later that require attention to detail and I'd feel better if I could see what's on your screen. I had to try the steps more than once when I tested the process and I'd like to avoid that on your machine.

Here's what I'd like to do for the Macrium Rescue steps later on in the process
I'll post the the step, you'll post an picture of the Macrium screen,
I'll echo same screen back if I see something that needs changing or I'll just say Go Ahead

When I confirm that the Macrium screen, you'll make any changes I've highlighted and THEN execute the step

Here's where you begin today's session, we'll get as far as we get and then pick up when you get back home.

Step 1: Safeguard the System Image by moving it to a new folder

    1. Connect the Seagate exp drive

    2. File Explorer: Navigate to the Seagate drive

    3. Create a new Folder named 1_sysImage

    4. Move WindowsImageBackup to 1_sysImage

Step 2: List the VHDs in the System Image

    1. File Explorer: Navigate to 1_sysImage\WindowsImageBackup\machineName\Backup date-time

    2. Press the Type column to sort by Type

    3. Post a screen shot

    Bill,

I truly believe in your moto of, "Give a man a fish and he eats for one day, Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.", BUT.... you can't fix stupid.

    Bill,

    A question for clarity please.

What is the reason that I can't do a clean install, reload all my programs that I can and supply the keys for them, then on the programs that are downloaded and have the registration info, just get those programs and copy them to the hard drive.

Also, why can't I just get the registry keys and copy them also??

That might be what you will do if this process doesn't work.

It's where we where last week, but that got side tracked by a number of things.

    1) the attempt to overwrite the Clean install with the System Image data - this might have also manifested other issues your machine is exhibiting now.

    2) the crazy disk # thing - really cost some time.

I'm not opposed to taking that route, you said earlier that you have the license keys and all you're concerned about is the data.

The data is the sticky point, because you also said that you couldn't find the PST & OST files for Outlook - and I'm under the impression that is what your thread is all about.

So this session/method is an attempt to restore the System Image using an alternate method. We know that the native Windows restore process fails regardless of the way it is launched.

Getting the registry keys out of the System Image is another sticky point. I'm sure it can be done ... just not sure on how to do it.

Rather than change directions today, let's see if the alternate method works. If it doesn't the only path forward is a Clean Install and dig around for your data. The data might not be found - my focus is on getting your System Image restored using the alternate method we're going to try today so you can find your PST & OST files more easily.

Moving on with the alternate restore method ....

Step 3: Mount this VHD (it's the smaller one)
edit: Double click the file to mount it

Step 4: Launch Macrium Reflect (not the Rescue CD)
