Windows Backup Error

Hello!
I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop and am trying to create a system backup and system image (or repair disc). I am receiving an 'access denied' with an error code of 0x80070005 on each attempt ("Create System Image", "Set a Backup", "Create System Image Repair Disc"). I tried going to services and starting the Volume Shadow Service and Storage Spaces and am still getting this error.

- A bit of history on the laptop for informational purposes - I somehow crashed the laptop awhile back and basically recovered it by online instructions. I'm far from a pro at this, and after doing so my CD/DVD drive stopped working correctly. I used a USB stick for the reinstall, but I may have changed (or messed up) something in the BIOS when it asks where you want to recover from (??) - I had initially attempted using a DVD in which I 'thought' had a good backup on it. But it wouldn't work - as to why I went with the USB and had to start from scratch with a fresh & clean ISO. I have since upgraded to Windows 10 (from 8.1). Therefore - my drives may very well be a tangled mess but I'm afraid to mess with them. My CD/DVD drive used to be drive letter 'D' and is now 'G'. And...for some reason, for a couple of weeks the 'D' drive was showing up in the windows file explorer - then mysteriously disappeared. With that being said, would my drives being messed up have something to do with the inability to use the backup? And if so - is there an instructional forum on here on how to 'fix' my drives/letters and revert them to their normal (factory) state?
