Will try this tomorrow morning.@Gomer The CheckDisk command should find and fix bad reparse points/junctions, so I'd like you to run that please.
Open an elevated command prompt [right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)]

Answer Y for yes, to schedule CheckDisk at the next boot. Save all work and close all windows. Reboot the computer and let it run. It will take quite some time, so be patient. Hopefully, this will put the Desktop back where it's supposed to be.
