    Hi,

That SyncToy app is just great !
I tested it for keeping my files on the 3tb-disk updated and it works 100% !
    Very nice program !
    Thanks for that tip !

Good to hear! Please make sure you are familiar with the three options for use, they function differently. There is an excellent tutorial on our sister site Sevenforums for this tool. It will explain in depth the inner workings. Enjoy! TC

    Hi,

I just went to see the tutorial and it conferms what i found myself.
I created 2 folders and put some files into the "left" one.
Then i fooled around with changing, renaming and deleting files in both locations.
Found that the "contribute" option is the best for my needs.
    So thanks again...
    I'm a happy man ;-)

    Hi,

Macrium is good for IMAGING HDD's (usually the OS) but probably not a good idea for copying DATA -- problem is once you've copied the data with Macrium you then have to restore it again !!!.
    Why?
Besides the obvious problem OP has with the USB port there's also the fact that he's copying loads of small files.
That means opening files, writing it to destination, closing it and verifying the lot x times.
IOW, that's going to take more time than Macrium imaging the drive's data and putting it onto the destination drive because it can take priority over running processes whereas Windows does not unless you tweak it.
That, plus it is now acting as a single file source which means much les processing time. That's why it can work so fast.

Other factors to consider are the HDDs are slow, much slower than USB 3.0 or higher transfer rates allow for.
If, on top of that, you connect a SATA II drive to an USB 3.0 port you will notice the drive choke on the transfer and W10 will fall back to USB 2.0 or lower.

Either way, the problem certainly doesn't lay with Macrium's , it's agnostic of whether it's copying an OS or files or whatever.

    Cheers,
