"System and compressed memory" is very high for no reason

As the title says, in the last day or two i have noticed that "System and compressed memory" is very high for no reason.

It has started to grind my PC to a halt.

Any ideas what could be causing it?

    Thanks.

That are normal numbers, but your system is short on memory. Are you running Windows in virtual machine? Then you might consider giving it a little more resources.

Is this PC or tablet? because, I have an old system with 4 GB of RAM and similar system and compress. memory usage. With browser, office, music player etc. I still have more than half of memory ready.

This is rocket compared to my system. 200 MB doesn't matter - find what else is using memory. Go to performance tab and at the bottom line find resource monitor.
It will give you more detailed report.

A quarter after a reboot mine has raised a few 100 MB, before the reboot it was almost 1GB. I know what it is meant for, but I'm wondering if it ever lowers down a bit.

    You're welcome.
Still, it's very strange to have 96% of memory in use, but the process that uses most of it, uses just 200 MB (of 8 GB).
    System must have been busy
