RST? no. As I recall it after upgrading, I had the issue. Then when I did a repair install I wanted to install as few 3rd party(borderline 3rd party) stuff from my Motherboard software DVD as possible and my conclusion from, mainly the bios, was that RST was a RAID thing and I choose not to install it.

I do believe I had RST on my Win 7 installation though.

In the interest of confirming that RST+Link Power Management off, solved my issue I will not fiddle with anything else, remotely related to this, for 48 or so hours.

Don't guess. Open resource monitor, go to disk tab, and expand disk activity section. Then sort by total descending. You'll get to see what is reading / writing a lot.

    Common culprits I've seen are

    • .NET runtime is optimizing
    • Intel security drivers are scanning the system (this is anti-theft drivers, not anti-virus)
    • Windows updates

If you let your system sleep, rather than shutdown, these will often occur at night (by auto waking your machine)

The real key is to see the path of the image (application) that is busying your machine. If it's in windows it's less of a worry. But either way you can look it up to see what's up.

I don't recommend changing system settings, MS has a tendency to reset them with new updates anyway

Also older versions of apps sometimes have trouble (winzip, security apps) and should be removed.

    Hi Sodien,

I have the same issue. So i'll close my topic and stay with you. )
What troubles me more is that i reinstalled Windows 7 (clean install) and still have the same problem. Before updating to Win 10 i didn't has such troubles, and no troubles also under Win 10 for about one month. So... I suspect is because of the SSD (maybe is broken?) but then i noticed you said you tried 2 different SSD...
My SSD is also Samsung (840 EVO). I updated the firmware, but no difference.

My next move will be to replace the SSD with a HDD.

    Best regards!

Solved. Thank you dalchina for your help.
No spikes since I got RST and turned off Power Link from that program.

Spiep, you can use Intel rapid storage even if you don't have a intel ssd. I think you need a intel chipset on your motherboard but I am uncertain. Also I never did have to try my second SSD.
Something that I have not listen here that I think you should try is go over every driver in device manager and try to update them using windows auto update. It didn't help me but it was the solution to a similar issue. GL
