    Boot up takes 2 hours!

Alright so after long hours of research I have narrowed down y problem.
Long story short I messed with the permissions of my C:\Windows directory and sure enough it has caused issues. Now my computer when powering on will show a light blue screen with spinning dots for hours before it finally gets to the log on screen.

After a lot of research I am aware that it is a permission issue and want to know what to do ti fix it. Sorry if this is kinda vague, but I am able to provide any additional information and will be very appreciative of any help you guys can offer :)

I suggest you do a Clean Install. Who knows what else has been messed up besides the permissions issue ?

Use this Tech Bench link to download the ISO file > burn it to a bootable media ( DVD or USB ) > use it to do a Clean Install.

I have a similar but unrelated issue to this, my laptop doesn't even get to the boot screen (mine's acer so its the acer logo) for two hours (sometimes, it can be as little as ten minutes though). I think that could be down to the RAM overheating, which also appears to be causing random shut-downs and the occasional BSOD, I don't think a clean install would fix this to be honest, but I agree for your permission issue do a clean install (but first try to use another laptop to get your stuff off the hard drive, either that or use a live boot disk

In addition, try to do a system restore prior to changing the permission. Also disconnect any external devices.

I actually was able to resolve my issue along with some issues with the store thing in the start menu by using the free version of tweaking.coms tool

    Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free/Pro

It's not a gimic, it really saved me from doing a clean install and losing everything

    Zero Escape:

Well, there is no detailed problem description?
What was done on permission problem or the cause of permission?
No interaction with other members here?

Next thing you post is problem resolved with a program! Can you enlighten the poor techies here?

If it looks like spam, sounds like spam, there's a good chance it is spam.

Sadly, I was sort of 'jazzed' about that tweaking program , but shady tactics makes me think twice.

    Nice call!

    Edit:
Well, if this was in fact spam, I hate to further promote it, but I was curious.

The program he linked to does seem to have the ability to help in these type of circumstances. I wanted to add this, in case this might be of some help to anybody. I understand there's a portable version too.

I'm not sure about re-posting possible spam, so I'll leave the link to the program out. However, THIS was my reference. I, personally, have never heard of it before.
