Weird Hangup problem, I think associated with explorer.exe

    Hey Guys,

I just finished a PC build and am running Windows 10 Pro. After about two weeks of usage, I noticed a problem - every time I would create a new folder, which I renamed it and hit enter, the OS would freeze for a few seconds, explorer would restart, and then the folder would be finished. It wasn't crippling my system, but I knew something was wrong - I didn't build a fast desktop to have it hang every time I made a folder!

I tried some sfc /scannow fixes to see if that would repair things, but it didn't. I ended up reinstalling windows, and then created some system restore points along the way. Today, it started doing it again and I had to use a restore point. I know the folder thing is the symptom of some other problem, but I have yet to discover what it is. Any help or input would be appreciated. Let me know what diagnostic printouts I need to post. Thanks!

Hi, given that it's a clean install on a new PC, presumably you've been installing other programs.

When you used your restore point, did it indicate certain programs would no longer work?
I.e. is the cause of your problem perhaps associated with sthg you've installed?

What I find helpful is to keep a simple log of changes I make. So, starting from a point where the symptom does not occur, note any configuration changes you make, or programs you install.

Another possibility might be an update, but your symptom is a new one so that would seem an outside possibility.
Nontheless, when the symptom occurs, check the record of Windows updates installed.

No guarantee whatsoever this will necessarily help- just got to start somewhere.

Another thing you can try is this, when the symptom recurs:
    Download and install Shellexview (free).
Hide all MS shell extensions, disable the rest.
    See if there's any change.

Thanks for the info! I will give this a try if and when the problem reoccurs. Thanks!
