Jody, 1GB is probably fine, unless you hit some really memory intensive app. In the long run, you're better off just letting the system manage it and not try to guess.
This is even more true with Windows 10 due to its memory compression, which means it may not even need 1GB.

IBM invented the Virtual Memory Page file concept in 1965 ...

    A bit more history ...

As one of my IBM instructors in 1967 always started each new idea in the lecture with ...

IBM invented the Virtual Memory (Pagefile) concept in 1965, which was introduced with the IBM System 360-65. The hardware box (located in the left side logic gate) was called a DAT box (Dynamic Address Translator) we used to say "What's DAT? ... Do you know what DAT is? ... DAT's a DAT BOX!"

DAT was a joke among the FEs.

The Transition Lookaside Buffer (TLB) was used to store translation address to speed the process.

    A bit of history:

When MS started making Windows, many years ago now, they knew that it would be called on to run on the systems of the day, with maybe only 256meg's of ram. So, they created the Virtual Memory (Pagefile) to be a supplement to the physical RAM.
That works, but it negatively effects the performance of the PC, because accessing files from the hard drive (the Pagefile) is much slower than accessing the same files from RAM memory, by as much as 1000 times.
In theory, if you have enough RAM, you don't even need a Pagefile, except that some software expects to see it and may puke if it doesn't.

    Cheers Mates!
