Disk drive lights up - programs halt

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, programs, especially games, suddenly halt and the disk light comes on. This is especially annoying during games as everything halts on-screen until the disk light goes off. I was just playing Assassins Creed Syndicate and the dialog would go silent while the disk light was on. It's almost like Windows 10 is halting while a load is taking place.

I originally thought my games disk was beginning to age but this happens in IE, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc., which are on a different disk.

Anyone having this type of issue? Does Win 10 have a disk management issue?

EDIT: I just happened to think that my page file is on a separate disk from Win 10 and my games. Could this cause an issue?

Custom assigning things to other drives which may have worked in the previous versions might just be the cause such as seeing that done for the paging file but due to you running the 64bit not 32bit Windows 10 doesn't rely too much on that even being there at all! With the 64bit OS the programs used the most frequently tend to stay preloaded a bit not much but a small amount into the Active Ram for a more effecient startup. You might noticed that first switching from the 32bit Windows if you had been running XP or Vista or even the 32bit 7 and then went into the 64bit Windows and have noticed a big change!

I've been working with a number off offbeat 3rd developer mods pushing the limits a bit with those on 10 since I knew someone would start asking about gaming issues! And the problem isn't with 10 itself but as it turns out the game's own designs! I've been taking the exact same titles tried out years back on both 32bit and 64bit beta and RC builds for 7 and still run into the same types of crashes on 10 to edicate that one.

Yet you mention "Upgraded to..." which in itself implies something else that would be 10 strictly 10 related being a buggy upgrade install! And the bugs are coming out now at you! Dang MS offer to Upgrade not allow Clean installs from the get go was a lame brain decision to begin with since all it does is cause problems for people! And by your description it sounds like you are still running the 10240 build seen out in July?

If you plan any clean install now if not an upgrade to repair first go for the updated Media Creation tool and download to save the new 4 in 1 ISO! That now sees the Threshold 2 build in both Home and Pro 32bit and 64bit wrapped into one packaged for a good 8gb size usb flash drive Installation Key! I think this is where you will find all your problems are stemming from.

I had hoped to avoid a 'clean' install. I have buku programs installed and I really don't want to spend many days re-installing them. Any way around that?

    EDIT

By the way, thanks for your reply. Sorry I didn't get back right away but I went out of town.

I never plan any custom installs of program to other drives since those are used to store downloads as well as files I intend to keep where I can alway simply turn around and wipe either OS drive clean to start fresh again or simply restore a full system image backup! The initial upgrade seen from a clean 7 install being upgraded note not any cluttered previous version's install still resulted in seeing a BUGGYmare of an upgrade the first time around being repaired by a second upgrade over the first to get things working!

On the second desktop intended for WiFi connection only as a small portable desktop 10 won't last! I run the Insider Previews while those last and no drivers available for the usb WiFi adapter to connect to the router! oops! Thanks a lot Cisco Linksys! Have to stay with 7 Pro there while the main of course will be seeing a permanent dual boot while the present build lasts.

Spent over $300US($319.99 at Staples shipped by mail after purchase when finding 7 cartons on display) on the 7 Ultimate when first RTM and not planning to simply dump 7 with paid for softwares there quite yet until at least one project is complete which has had a few setbacks recently. And a few of those would need to be bought all over again since they can't be reinstalled even to try on 10. I know the feeling!

This is also why seeing a full image made of a single OS drive is much easier to tend to when you have everything together in one place. And the advantage of dual booting OSs has another added bonus of being able to restore the OS on one drive while booted into the other OS rather the need to be booted live from a recovery disk. You can work while restoring!
