Weird Problem: HDD Performing VERY Slow!

    Hi all,

I've been wanting to replace this 2TB internal HDD for a long time now but the Covid19 Crisis has really given me so many extra tasks to do and so I've had to focus on other tasks instead of replacing this 2TB internal HDD.

What's strange is that even when I put the HDD under as much strain as I can and look at Task Manager it only reaches 20% usage in the "Disk Column": I'm running multiple apps and having many windows/tabs open in Firefox, running an "Error Scan" in the App called "HD Tune".

No matter what I try it only gets to a maximum of 20% in the "Disk Column" of Task Manager.

    What does this mean???

I'm running Windows 10 2004 with all updates installed.

I just did a scan using the App "SeaTools" by Seagate and I did a "Short Test" and it got up to 90% but says that it failed the test...

This is the App I'm using:

All the hallmarks of a failing drive ... back up your personal data immediately (if it's not already stored elsewhere)

Replace the HDD with an SSD.

Just replace the HDD. You have to assume at some point you are going to have to do this after a number of years. Very much a standard servicing task.
Which is why people save Disc Images to another drive which makes it easier to get back to a working scenario.

I really appreciate your replies Helmut and idgat!

I'm in the process of backing up my data now, but is there anything else I can do to make this Seagate HDD last a bit longer so I have enough time to copy the files off the HDD?

    EDIT:
I just ran another short test using the Seagate "SeaTools" App and it says "PASS" in green writing.

Run Crystal Disk Info to get the SMART report.

I don't have Crystal Disk Info, but I've already got "HD Tune" installed. Can I use HD Tune instead?

    Thanks!

Better use CDI, it updates more often and has more accurate readings.

Crystal Disk Info is a portable, don't need to be installed. Extract and run.

Isn't there something I can do with SeaTools or HD Tune since they're already running?

Okay I've been doing some "stress testing" on the HDD and now it's only able to get up to "17% usage" in Microsoft Task Manager...

Does this mean the HDD is only getting worse???
