Accidentaly lost Windows.old folder. Any way to recover?

    Accidentaly lost Windows.old folder. Any way to recover?


    So today I performed a system file cleanup on my Local Disk (C:) and it permanently deleted my Windows.old folder. It contained VERY important files to me. I tried doing everything to recover it. I used EaseUS it didn't find it. I tried creating it again and looking at it's previous versions it says that it didn't find any. I don't have any restore points apparently too after the cleanup. Is there any way to recover it? I really need those files...

    I've had that happen and the result was No, once Disk Cleanup did its job there was nothing to recover. Also involved is whether the install of Win10 was more than 30 days old as that can cause loss of the Windows.old Folder, set that way on purpose. I've experienced both 'features'.

    There are data recovery tool available. Since Disk cleanup just removes the pointer to the files and does not overwrite them you should be able to recover them. But once disk cleanup is run those files could be overwritten at any time. I don't have any current experience with what would work best for you, But I did want to say don't give up hope yet.

    Data Recovery - Kroll Ontrack real deep scanner and more. don't format or overwrite anything on your disk. windows old has a time stamp.
