Yeah, I just find it weird that having software like that causes windows to consider it as an OS drive. The entire drive could be wiped and my computer would continue to boot windows and run fine, it just would have less normal programs to run.

So today I was messing around with Macrium Reflect and I actually like it. It makes windows 10 backup service look crappy

I would like to use Macrium Reflect to create my SSD backup but it is not clear to me exactly how I could restore from that backup. I just spent an hour online trying to find the answer to my question but am not 100% sure so I am wondering if you guys could possibly answer it for me:

Lets say I create a backup image of my SSD on a secondary hard drive and then my SSD dies on me and the data on it is completely unrecoverable. In order to get my PC working again, I would have to buy a new SSD (or HDD), and then use a WinPE USB drive/CD/DVD to boot from, where I could then access my saved SSD backup on another drive connected to the computer and restore the backup from there to a new SSD (or HDD)?

If this isn't a question you guys can answer il make a new thread, I just thought I would give it a shot because you both have been very helpful so far.

I'm trying to make sure that if I use Macrium Reflect as my new backup software that I fully understand what to do if anything ever happens to my SSD. :)

Yes. Make a Macrium Reflect rescue USB/DVD/CD to boot from. I think it is under the Other Tools menu.

If I don't have a USB available now, could I use a secondary computer to make one later? I understand it wouldn't have the same drivers, but I would be able to use it to restore from my drive image still, correct?

Should be able to. The Windows PE disc created by Macrium has most standard drivers included - I've only seen it complain about not having certain network adapter drivers.

You can also add a boot menu option to start the rescue environment. However, you will be presented with a dual boot menu everytime you start up Windows.

    Here's another alternative:

See if this helps. It's an older version of Macrium, but it still works the same. It is a demonstration of how it's done.
