Hi what have you upgraded from which OS also have you run CCleaner the free version if not download and run that and that will get rid of any old dead links once run see if it runs better then.
Post back either way and we will try and help you more

    Hi!

Laptops with 4GB of RAM could be bought since 2009 at least. 4GB should be fine; the amount of RAM alone does not say much. What would be relevant is the processor you use!

Also when you say "slow", do you then mean always, like generally slow? Or are there special situations in which it is especially slow?

Hi, there could be several reasons; I had to deal with 2 or 3 before getting CPU use under 10% when it was supposedly doing nothing.

Can you please open task manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC), click on Details, CPU so that processes are listed top to bottom from those using most CPU time.

    Then post a screen-shot.

Similarly, go to the Processes tab, Cick on the Disk tab so that processes are listed top to bottom from those accessing the disk most.

    Then post a screen-shot.

If background processes are using your CPU or disk heavily, your PC could be slow.

Another completely different issue could be that your mouse is 'laggy' - i.e. you move your mouse, and it takes time to catch up. I had that symptom before the correct graphic driver was downloaded automatically several hours after upgrading to Win 10.

The more you can tell us about what 'slow' means in practice, the more exact answer you will hopefully get

My wife has a Dell XPS 400/Dimension 9100 with Pentium D 830 processor and 4 GB memory with a 1 TB hard drive.

It was slow in Windows 8.1 but she does not want a new computer.
So I upgraded her machine to 250 GB SSD over a year ago. Amazingly, it worked and met her need of Email, On-line banking, and simple Online games. Yes the machine is 10 years old and was designed for Windows XP!

When we upgraded her machine to Windows 10, we can only run the 32 bit version due to Pentium D lacks features to support 64 bit version. Nevertheless the machine is running fairly well. I want to buy a new machine but she refused!

Please update your System Specs, other people will be able to help you better!
