Yes it could just be the hard drive failing. A 250gb ssd isn't very expensive these days. You can get a good 1tb nvme ssd for about £80.

I am not that up on partitioning or the purposes for it - except perhaps for gaming. Can someone explain to me what the purpose of the big E drive is - and why not just have a large C drive (ie most of the drive) with everything on it?

There is no M.2 connector on the Inspiron 3655.
I listed some 256G SATA SSDs on post #24. They cost around US$20
    A 1T SATA SSD cost around US$60

What happens if you double click on it?

I've just downloaded on my computer and it is just hdsentinel_trial_setup.zip
I think yours didn't download properly.
    Try again.

    Funny thing!
I downloaded twice on my own win 11 PC, same result, did not open at all.
Then I downloaded on my wife's win 10 PC, installed and ran without a hitch.
HDD comes back 100% in both categories!

So it seems that your drive is healthy.
May bee it was downloading and installing a upgrade and the computer got so busy that almost nothing else work properly.

I still would install a 256G SSD and clone the current drive (but the E: Partition) to it.
A 256G is more than you need and it cost about US$ 25.

Just thinking you could get a 1tb ssd sata drive for about £60, clone the drive and use the old one for backups in an external drive enclosure like the one below (second link) Did moving the emails to the E drive speed anything up?
