    SFC fails to run

I attempted to run sfc /scannow and it returned the followings:
Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation.

The OS is W10 21H1. The above utility works fine on W8.1.
I tried all but the method 5 suggested at How To Fix “Windows Resource Protection Could Not Perform the Requested Operation”.

    Well...

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.
The ISO must be created in the same language as you are using in Windows, to be able to keep your Programs and Files.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Do a Repair Install as Ghot suggested. It is the best choice and probably will also be the fastest.

Note: if you use the MS media creation tool to get the iso, that will be for 22H2.

Should you need to stay on (the somewhat old) 22H1 you need to download an iso file of that build (tutorial available).

However the fact that you are still on 22H1 may indicate additionally there is a problem.

Before attempting the in-place upgrade repair, check your disk(s) and file system as otherwise you could make things worse, and it could fail.

Hard Disk Sentinel (excellent) - full functional trial, covers SSDs; More basic SMART check, Crystal Diskinfo (free).
    Remember to check ALL drives.

    If ok:
File system check: from an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan

This is the update on my troubleshooting:

I have done the In-Place Install using 22H2. The result was that the SFC ran fine, but one of the apps no longer worked.
My options now are to 1) try those suggested by Try3, 2) try to repair the app, and 3) quit using the app.

What's the App, if that's not private info?
We may know of a replacement if the repair doesn't help.

It is an alternative to MS IME, which is called Keichuu「契冲」 and is used to write Japanese. This app is available only from a Japanese vendor. I am going to research for possible replacement.

Good luck. This is way out of my skill set.

As suggested I did all of the above prior to the in-place install and found nothing wrong.
Regarding W10 version for the in-place upgrade repair, I knew 21H1 affects one of the apps installed so I picked the latest version or 22H2 instead.
The app survived many Windows updates. This means updating 22H1 to 22H2 by the Windows Update should be tried. I have 4 clones of the 22H1 , 2 GPT and 2 MBR style drives for any experimnets.
