PC hangs after startup. Need to daily reseat RAM and PC works fine.

    Hi,

My Windows 10 work PC hangs after startup and I've sent it to the IT department and they stress test parts and found nothing wrong. They just reseated the RAM and did stress test on individual parts and the PC as a whole and left the PC stress tested for 3 days and nothing is wrong. However, when I got back the PC hangs again. I did what the PC technician did and reseated the RAM. Then everything works well throughout the day. The next day, when I come back, then sometimes I run into the same problem so I need to reseat the RAM again. I noticed that if I come back after the weekend, then the RAM will definitely need to be reseated.

Any ideas what kind of problem I am facing? Do I need to just leave the PC running/sleep while I am away rather than turning it off?

... I've had a similar type of issue, but slightly different.

    Try this:
    1) Go into your BIOS settings, and save the current BIOS modifications into a file or whatnot within the BIOS, just so you can revert back to your current BIOS settings, if needed.
    2) Reset your BIOS settings to the default settings that come initially with the motherboard.
    3) Then try starting up the computer and restarting the computer. If it restarts well, then try shutting down the computer, and turning it back on. If that goes well, then try restarting and shutting down the computer several times. If that all works well, then that means there's some non-default setting in the BIOS that could be causing this.

Could you clarify when the problem originates, before the bios ,during bios or Windows loading ?
Are your RAM sticks all from the one manufacturer and same size and frequency?
Could you try using the minimum RAM to see if the operation is normal and if so,then slowly adding more sticks to identify any which may be problematical.
Does Reliability History have any entries which cover the situation?

Updated the latest bios. Will see next few days how it fares.

    Chronology of events.
    1. PC starts normally. I enter password to login. Open few websites, read email after 3-4 mins, it hangs. Keyboard and mouse inputs freeze. Sound still comes out but will stop.
    2. I then will restart the PC by pressing the button.
    3. Restarts normally. I enter password, it hangs after I just login to windows.
    4. Repeat step 2.
    5. After entering password, it freeze as it is about to load windows.
    6. Repeat step 2.
    7. Freezes just as it gets to the window boot screen, before putting password.
    8. Repeat step 2.
    9. Freezes at BIOS loading screen, before getting into windows.

Every time it freezes, the time gets shorter and shorter. So I sent to the IT dept and they could not figure what was wrong. But did tell me that reseating RAM worked.

RAM are all from one manufacturer. 16GB x2. The IT technician tried that and tried parts externally from this PC.

Reilability has history but I am not sure how to read it.

The ---problem event name "Live kernal event and Code 141 ---from Reliability History, point to a hardware problem and the culprit is quite likely the Display Adapter Driver.
In ---dxdiag ---the Display page, note down the Driver version in use, located on the right side and visit the maker's site only and download that driver,or a later version if available.
Then in Safe Mode, use Display Driver Uninstaller,[DDU] to remove the driver in use and when completed, install the new one.
You can use the information in those two lines from Reliabilty History,to search for any other possible solution.

What happens if you run the PC in Safe Mode with no third party stuff loaded?

Let's hope the BIOS update fixes that. But here's another good idea to keep in mind, assuming it has to do with software errors, or possibly hardware errors that could be logged.

Once it freezes, keep note of the time, including the seconds, of when this happens. Let's say you're using the computer, then all of a sudden it freezes. Pull out your smartphone, and look at the time, and write that down real quick.

Restart your computer, and open the Event Viewer, and look at these sections. Those sections are "most likely" where this error would probably be logged, but I am not excluding the other ones. Take a look at those, and see if you can find something that's so close to the time you wrote down. Hopefully the Event Viewer is taking a log of what is causing this.
