Sorry if I made-up some terminology. My bad.

I meant to ask if you let Microsoft Update download the Win 10 upgrade and then let it apply that download to your existing system (in place), as opposed to installing Win 10 on a cleaned disk.

I apply and verify the registry updates cited in this discussion, but my Win 10 Pro x64 still seems to turn-off all of the monitors after 2 minutes of inactivity. An exception is if I'm watching a video in full-screen.

That's what I assumed you meant, but wasn't sure.

The registry fix didn't work for me either. It wasn't until after I noticed the link on the advanced power settings panel that I was able to clear the two minute timeout.

This thread helped solve the problem for me! Thanks to all.

Like others, I looked at all the obvious settings with no luck. Next, I tried to simply change advanced settings in power options by clicking 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' but that did dot allow access to 'System unattended sleep timeout'.

I looked at the registry key by searching on my own. I found it easily, but it was not clear what attribute value to set. The attribute is not a time setting, it is in fact an attribute of the key that describes what that key should allow/disallow. Thanks to the link earlier in this thread I found that someone already figured out that the attribute should be 0x00000002 (decimal 2 is easier to type in).

That little nugget of info told the OS to show the 'System unattended sleep timeout' setting. I changed it from 2 minutes to 25 and sure enough - it worked just fine. That is a simple fix for Microsoft if they already know about it. Not even a code bug, but a settings feaux pax.

Hope this thread helps others. That silly glitch was KILLING me as I try to evaluate Win 10 for my business.

None of the above "fixes" do no fix the problem on my machine. I keep hoping that Microsoft will provide a fix, but that hasn't happened. My guess is that most people have no problem increasing the non-activity screen timeout beyond two minutes. I live in a studio apartment and can't get up to urinate without having to log onto my system again. It is very aggravating.

I would find it very useful to know if people who fixed this problem upgraded to Windows 10 without wiping their disk. I upgraded my Windows 8.1 Professional with Media Center x64 using Windows Update. It may be that Windows 10 inherited some windows 8.1 registry settings that are causing some conflict.

I manually changed the registry key and AFTER that, the 'System unattended sleep timeout' option was available in the Power Option dialog box. Previously, that option was absent even after click the 'Change setting that are currently unavailable'

This is on an old-ish Toshiba labtop Intel i3 that was upgraded from Win 7 Home.

Here is the solution that worked out for me:

    1. Click on the windows icon
    2. Type regedit
    3. Right-click on regedit icon, click Run as administrator
    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0
    5. Double click on Attributes
    6. Enter number 2.
    7. Go to Advanced power settings (click on Windows button, write power options, click on Power Options, in the selected plan click on the Change plan settings, click on the Change advanced power settings).
    8. Click on the Change settings that are currently unavailable
    9. Click Sleep, then System unattended sleep timeout, then change these settings from 2 Minutes to 20 for example.
    That's it!

Nothing mentioned above worked for me until I found Interactive logon:Machine inactivity limit and machine account lockout threshold in the local security policy. The screen will still often go blank after 2 minutes, but not always. The big improvement for me is that it doesn't require me to enter my userid/password to continue working.

I believe Microsoft didn't enforce consistent screen saver and power options criteria.

Only been using Windows 10 for a week & yes, this little bug was starting to annoy me... The fix 'post above' worked for me perfectly for around 2 minutes! Turns out in the end to be VERY simple...
My screen saver was set to blank @ 2 minutes. Clicked/ selected screensaver to (none), Done, problem solved! Thanks all for taking the trouble to share!

    Simple Solution

In my case the solution was simple, but not easy to realize. I never use a lockscreen, but after the migration the updater changed my configs creating a blank lockscreen that runs after 1 minute of inactivity. My windows is in portuguese, then I do not know if in the english version the terms are the same I will describe below.

To change this configuration, click with the right button on the work area (where you have some icons and the wallpaper). Go in 'personalize' option (remember, I am translating from portuguese, the word in english can be other). At left bar, chose 'lockscreen'. At the end chose 'lockscreen configuration' (it is the last option). Then change the lockscreen to 'none' (first option) or change the wait time. If selected, unselect the option 'at restart, show logon screen'.

I hope this can help others.
