I'm using Auslogic Disk Defrag 9
I have an M2 SSD and have set 'Use only SSD defragmentation' and 'Use the TRIM feature'
The analysis shows the drive as 17% defragmented but when I run the optimisation it finishes OK but the still shows 17% defragmented
Am I missing something?
Is optimisation so different to defragmentation that the 17% stays the same?
If so then what is optimisation actually doing vs defragmentation?
If you have set an SSD to be 'optimised' weekly by the Defragmenter [C:\Windows\System32\dfrgui.exe], then it actually trims & defrags monthly.This info is in defrag - Microsoft Docs under the sub-heading 'Scheduled task'I do not know how this relates to the utility you are using. Perhaps they have detailed support pages that contain similar explanations to that for the MS utility.

Open administrative PS and copy and paste:
Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter c -Analyze -Verbose
When this has completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

Try running Auslogics Disk Defrag on Windows PE.
Auslogics Disk Defrag Free works fine on my Windows PE.
SSD doesn't have to be defragmented or optimized like hard drives with a spinning head, doing so you're only reducing the lifetime of your SSD and gain nothing.
If you want faster performing SSD drive and not spending cash for faster drive, then installing as few software as possible is probably the best option you can get.
for example fresh installed system "can make" your SSD drive twice or more as fast (at least it could feel so), however installing more and more software on it will make it slower, Windows OS can also make the drive slower as it get's older ex. by collecting junk.
You can also try to remove junk and unneeded programs although this won't give you the speed that fresh system can.

I, personally, would not let any third party program touch the SSD in regards to fragmentation. Unless maybe it came from the manufacturer of the SSD.

Yes, your SSD's file system sometimes needs a kind of defragmentation and that's handled by Windows, monthly by default, when appropriate. The intent is to maximize performance and a long life. If you disable defragmentation completely, you are taking a risk that your filesystem metadata could reach maximum fragmentation and get you potentially in trouble.
Interesting link, I've read it and from my understanding the biggest impact that forces you to use SSD defragmentation is system restore, anything else is less or of no impact since no task done on home user system does so huge data reads or writes.
