    Low Memory Notification

I received a low memory notification which resulted in Windows shutting down. Before the shutdown, I tried to bring up Task Manager but received another error message.

I have 4gb ram and only had one tab opened without streams, etc. I understand this was an issue in some of the preview builds. Thoughts ?

windows 10 minimum requirements is 4gb ram I believe... you may need to up your ram to the whatever the processor and motherboard can handle... if that's an older system I think the max is 8gb using 2 dims if you're not sure contact the manufacturer of the pc... the newer systems within the last 2 years have increased the ram capability to support multitasking this could be your case...

if you only have 4gb of ram windows 10 multitasks stuff by default if it doesn't have the memory to handle it it trys to recover itself

    Thanks for the reply.

MS states that the minimum for 64bit is 2GB, though I am sure that does not mean optimum performance without hiccups. I have been running Win10 since 29 July and this is first occurrence. Laptop is 2.5 years old. Will monitor and if it becomes issue will return to Win 8.1.

The error message probably has nothing to do with a shortage of RAM. In fact RAM shortages rarely cause any problems other than poor performance. More likely it is due to hitting the commit limit which can happen even when there is high available memory.

4GB of RAM is fine. You might have some backgroumd process that causes memory leak. After reboot your system, open the task manager and monitor which process is taken up memory.

    Please explain "commit limit."

    Here:

You can adjust the paging file which makes the commit limit higher by doing this:

Thanks for all the replies/info. I have a better understanding of memory issues.
