    file history

    Hi,
I am having an issue with File History. On opening File History, I occasionally get the message: "Your File History drive disconnected for too long. To keep saving copies of your files, reconnect your drive and run backup" I don't understand. I use an external enclosure drive for my File History drive. It is always connected when the PC is on. PC is shut down at nights, though. Is that the problem? Do I have to run the PC at nights also, to keep File History happy. Please help me configure File History properly.

How is the drive connected to the computer? If by USB could be the computer is turning off power to the USB ports to save energy which in turn loses the connection to the drive.

Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings Change advanced power settings and check these:

Do you want me to disable the USB selective suspend setting and never turn off hard disk? Is that it?

That's what I had to do to keep immediate access to a couple of External USB HDDs.
