I am running an upgraded version. I did not bother with a clean install. Windows 10 is very fast and smooth for me.

Upgraded a computer at work from 7 to 10 and nearly everything runs snappier and faster. Did a upgrade from windows update when it was eligible.

You shouldn't need it if you already have it installed and activated. Just download the ISO, burn to disk, and launch it from inside your current install. It will ask if you want to upgrade it clean install. If you pick clean, it should install and be automatically activated. At least it did for me...

I gave up and reverted back to 8.1 which in itself was a nightmare as it produced an error message which said I needed to switch off anti virus - even after I did so. Eventually I got so fed up I put it away. Since then I've done all the usual maintenance stuff and now it's back to its speedy self and email works again.

If your running sluggish and slow best bet is do the free upgrasde get the windows 10 media creation tool and make a iso or usb. and do a clean install. But as i did i used my external Hard drive and made a image before i upgraded. I'm going to upgrade my tower today. probably next weekend do a clean install since i have tons of programs to reinstall unlike my laptop. since i did a clean install on my laptop its been working great and i enjoy it and like it aside the privacy issue. its just annoying that i have to turn off alot of thigns but aside that. I can say i acutally like windows 10 vs 8.1 or 8. I think i will finally move away from 7.

Are you running an upgraded install of Windows 10 or a fresh re-install? I'd suggest a fresh reinstall(after the upgrade and activation) to see how well Windows 10 can run. Upgrades almost never work that well. It's at least as fast for me as it was under Windows 7, and I know it boots faster.
Normally I would agree with the idea of clean install but if you delete old.windows file by doing a fresh install you will not be able to roll back to your previous versions of windows. As of now Microsoft will allow people to roll back up to 30 days after install and re-install up to a year later but not if you do a fresh install very bad idea who ever reads this DO NOT do a fresh install or your stuck!

That's not true. You can still re-install your Windows 7 or 8.1 within the first 30 days.
