Connecting to Front USB Ports Freezes the computer

    Hello.
    First of all, my specs:

    *Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 r2.0
*Chassis: Fractal Design R5 (Black, no window)
*The front USB ports are two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 (There's also Audio In/Out, but I don't use those)

    My issue:
Sometimes (seemingly randomly) when I connect a usb device (usually my cell phone - for charging, or my headphones) to the front usb port; my computer freezes. I am forced to press the tiny reset button to restart the computer in order to unfreeze it.

    I have tried several things:
*Changing the port on the motherboard to which the front usb is connected. (usb 1112, usb 1314)
*Uninstalling all the usb-related drivers manually. Then downloading and re-installing them manually from ASUS website. (I even made sure that Windows doesn't automatically install drivers for my computer.)
*Changed BIOS settings to enable USB XHCI hand-off.
*I even did a clean install of Windows 10, in case there were some driver-issue that couldn't be uninstalled (and even changed the old hard drive to a brand new SSD in the process - no old drivers should be left.)

None of the above has worked.
I tried googling in case the chassis might be the culprit. I found a Linus Tech Tips video on the Fractal Design R4 saying that the front USB was wired incorrectly. They said that customers should contact Fractal Design and have them send a replacement cable.
I figured this does not apply to my chassis, however, since mine is R5, not R4. (Thought I would bring it up nonetheless.)

    Re-creating the issue:
Like I said, this issue occurs seemingly randomly. So it's difficult to re-create.
Sometimes I can plug and unplug the headset as many times as I like, no matter what port I use, and it will work.
Sometimes it seems to freeze when I'm "doing something" (like streaming a youtube video).
My latest find, however, points towards this happening when BOTH my cell phone and my headset are connected at the same time. -Maybe some kind of short circuiting? Just a guess..

If anyone knows how to fix this, or have any ideas I would love to hear them. =)
    Thanks in advance.

If you have a multimeter & a spare usb lead you can chop to probe the wires to see if wired correct .

Look at picture - Red on the chopped cable should be +5V dc

    Update:
I contacted Fractal Design's customer support, and they sent med a replace USB front panel.
I changed panels and the problem still occured this morning.
(It is possible, but not very likely, that both panels are faulty.)

It's more likely that something else is causing the problem.
    -Maybe my motherboard?
-Maybe my headset? (Hyper X Cloud 2.)

Maybe the firmware of my headset could be the cause of the problem?

So the headset works if you plug it into the rear (motherboard soldered) usb port ?

I haven't tried that, I will try it a couple of times and see what happens - then update this thread with the results. (Might take a couple of days.)

reminds me of an issue i have with my front panel, but it has to do with static discharges. When the air is dry sometimes i'll get a chime like i plugged in a random USB device, even when its headphones. I added a 2.1 speaker system with a 40 watt subwoofer box and since then i only hear the subwoofer pop instead of the USB chime, before i wouldnt even feel a discharge and hear the usb noise anyway, so i bought a wireless keyboard and mouse and use a different chair and that problem stopped.

I'm always somewhat paranoid about plugging things in to the front panel anyway, long ago i somehow killed a motherboard by plugging in a digital camera to a front USB port, was idling at desktop and the computer powered down instantly when i plugged in the cable.

That's what I'm thinking when you say random, my problem seemed pretty random since I need to pick up static somehow first. Now i put sheets over certain chairs and that somehow works out, definitely better than searching around for something to ground a static discharge with.

Update: I have contacted the company that made my headset and asked them to send me a replacement USB dongle, in case this turns out to be the problem. Haven't gotten it yet, will update when I know more.

I also get the random "An USB device has been connected"-sound going off. This doesn't occur very often, though.
    I don't hear any popping of the subwoofer (I have GX Gaming 2.1 speakers - I believe it's 45W.)

Too much static in your room then you need an anti-static ion blower ?

    https://www.fraser-antistatic.com/en...sed-air-blower

They use these type of things in the electronics industry for an "ESD" room full of sensitive components !

If you are old enough to remember the 70's you could get a hand held one to remove static from your vinyl in fact you can still get them ?
