Question about single VGA cable with 6+2-pin and additional 6-pin?

Basically, it is safe to use one each for my two MSI gaming r9 290s with an EVGA G2 1000w, right? They fill all the pins on the card itself. My PSU came with two of these and only three of the normal 6+2s, so I suspect it would be an odd omission if it is not supported this way.

    Thanks.

    Uh...what?

6+2, or a straight 8 pin PCIe connector are just fine. If you're asking if you can use an 8 pin CPU connector? No. The pinouts are different.

No. The connector has an 8-pin on the side that connects to the PSU, and on the other end it has a branch connection that has BOTH a 6+2-pin and a 6-pin, giving it 14 pins in total.

(the unplugged plugs underneath are from a second cable that I set aside so when my second 290 comes in I don't have to rewire the whole thing again.)

Ah. It will run fine like that, but.....if you're going to be doing a lot of overclocking, I'd run a separate cable up to it.
