    Samsung PM951 looks different?.

Hi ive ordered a new PC and getting this SSD with it. Samsung PM951 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe ssd.

Why does it look different to normal SSD it almost looks like a ram chip. This is good for gaming isn't it?. lol I no it too late now to be asking a question as already ordered but just wanted to no why it looks different..

It uses an M2 socket as opposed to a regular sata plugin.

You should have no issues with its performance, gaming or OS wise.

Regular SSD speed is around 500MBps. M.2 SSD x4 is 5 times faster at 2500MBps if the motherboard supports it. It has little to no help in gaming. The GPU takes care of that.

You say it looks like ram chips ?

If you opened a sata 3 ssd you would see the same thing but a little bigger...

Looking at the image on Amazon.com: Samsung SSD NVMe MZVPV256HDGL-00000 SM951 256GB M.2 PCI Express 3.0 OEM: Computers Accessories shows the circuit board itself is similar to a memory module but the contacts are at one end and similar/same as a SATA drive. The notch at the other end is for a screw to hold it in place. The motherboard must be set up to use the drive. It may not be noticable through a clear case but most likely you will want to use a larger-capacity HDD for storage and large programs such as games.

An M.2 is different than a typical SSD. Depending on your board layout, it should look like one of these.
