What hard drive would you get ?

    Hey !

I need to change my system drive, I presently have an old and slow Kingston SSDNow V300 240gb.

I was thinking about getting one of these but not sure witch one, need you opinion on this.

    - Samsung 850 Pro 1TB
    - Samsung 950 Pro M.2 512GB
    - Sandisk Extreme Pro 960GB

I mostly just game on this PC and it's my Plex server, so it does some transcoding for Plex but I guess it's only a CPU thing and does not load the hard drive that much. Almost all my games are on a WD Black drive, only have a couple on the SSD due to the small 240GB I presently have.

My MB is a Asus Maximus VI Formula and does have a M.2 slot but it's kinda old and I don't know if it would take advantage of it.

I did the Passmark test and my drive is killing me, take a look at my systems specs, is all off this worth it ?

So, what would you get ??

    Thank's !

You have a good powerful system there so you have a wide range of options.

You could go with the 950 but bare in mind that it uses the same pci-e architecture as the graphics card so if you wanted a second 1070 in the future it *may* impact performance slightly. But as it stands now, you're ok

Other options as you have mentioned are the 850 evo 500. I dont think you need 1tb for an OS drive.

Have you also considered NVMe? Those things are beast.

Whatever you decide, you have a powerful PSU that can take anything.

    Isn't the 950 Pro a NVMe drive (500GB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe) ?

The reason I am looking for a big drive is that I want to be able to put a couple of games on it. The games are getting so big (60-80Gb) that it does not take allot of them to saturate space now a day.

Its probably better to keep your games off the OS drive because the OS may slow them down and vice verse.
