I will do the following upgrades:
- New ASUS M5A78L-M LX/BR AM3+ mobo;
- New AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz CPU;
- 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance RAM Kit, for a total of 8GB.
I'll be doing virtualization (e.g., run two VMs and allocate 2GB of RAM for each) and casual light-to-moderate gaming (Flightgear Flight Simulator for example).
I don't plan to do overclocking or anything like that.
My PSU is a 650W with a real power of 460W.
I'd think that is sufficient power but also of consideration is the number of fans in the case. There is the CPU and power supply fan and probably a big case fan or two but there may be a fan on the video/graphics card [I didn't look up its specs], all of which add up to how much power is needed.
Yep, this PC has fans for PSU, GPU and CPU. I'll see if this power supply will do it, if not, i may have to buy a new one.
This is not a newer motherboard, but an older model not much room for future upgrades. I know ASUS is a good brand just thinking if your upgrading i would myself go for newer type of motherboards. No Windows 10 updated drivers for this board if intending on putting that OS on although will probably work with Windows 8.1 drivers.
As far as a PSU you can go by PSU calculators to give you an idea and always go with more then needed. Since having an integrated card no need to worry about that yet as far as enough amps only if using a discrete card. https://www.google.com/search?q=PSU+...PSU+Calculator
What brand and model PSU ?
Well everything on a search comes up in spanish and really not much info. I would go with better brands of a PSU and make sure it is at least 80-85 Gold, Silver or Bronze certification. Good brands are Corsair, EVGA, Antec and Seasonic to name a few. Wattage isn't always everything to look for it's also quality.
Looks like i'll need a new PSU as well, don't want to risk damaging any of the components.
I just hope to finish this upgrade before the July 29 Windows 10 upgrade deadline. (As i won't be able to activate the OS with the new motherboard).
