How to change CPU frequency ?
    Go to power options:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options

Select your used power plan -> advanced power options (near the bottom).
The maximum processor state can be set lower than 100% in this case.

This means the closest clock multiplier will be used for that percentage.

    Example following the screenshot:
    If you have a, let's say, 3.00GHz processor @100%
--> for 85% => 3.00 * 0.85 = 2.55 and if the nearest possible value on that CPU is 2.4 or 2.6GHz, that value will be used.
Give it a try, testing the values for your needs.

    Note:
    Don't set the maximum state lower than the minimum state;

I noticed a few comments stating AMD temps are not reported correctly with Speccy, and I'm a bit confused.

I just ran Prime 95 for 10 minutes and monitored temps using Speccy, HWMonitor and SpeedFan. All 3 programs reported identical temps throughout. Using a stock cooler, Core Temp stabilized at about 52 degrees and the socket temp about 61 degrees.

As I understand it, HWMonitor provides clumsy information (for AMD) in that the Core Temp is reported as Temperatures - Package, while the Socket Temp is Temperatures - CPU. So, I've always paid attention to the Temperatures-Package when stress-testing.

For SpeedFan, Core Temp is accurate and Socket Temp is Temp 1 (for me).

Speccy CPU Temp = HWMonitor Package Temp = SpeedFan Core Temp

Here's how they look with P95 running (bear in mind I'm taking screenshots one at a time, so the data might be a little different for each):

Then after shutting down P95 and at idle:

Now when I overclock with the stock cooler, the Core Temps readings reach 65 degrees and higher. As I understand it, going too much higher than 62 degrees is risky (although plenty of folks have done so without critical problems). I've hit Core Temps of 70+ a few times with the stock fan roaring, but only for short testing periods.

I'm inclined to believe the Speccy temp readings are spot-on, but would appreciate any information indicating otherwise.

    Thanks!

Oups, I already had posted that in another thread. Deleted.

Just applied some new Arctic Silver and temp is 50 C now. So it got a little better.

Ambient temp on the right, coolant temp on the left. CPU and GPU temps obviously depend on overclock, volts and load.....which can and will vary wildly, depending on what I'm doing.
