I removed the drive cages from my PC and...

It seems to be helping with airflow to the graphics card. Consequently, since I still need a place to mount a HDD should I need one, I have a 5.25" trayless hotswap bay en rounte (should arrive Monday). Having the front of my case wide open to airflow is proving to be more beneficial than I actually thought it would be; I simply didn't like an empty HDD cage sitting there taking up space.

I'm curious if anyone else does this, and if your results have been about the same?

It's a fairly common practice. And if your cage is removable and largely empty, there's no real reason not to do so.

The empty cages just accumulate dust, so I always remove them...
