Some updates on the PC. Since then, I swapped the motherboard for the ASUS X99-Pro after the whole thermal-grease-in-the-socket-broken-pin fiasco that happened in February. Also decided to add an additional 16GB of RAM to make 32GB total. Seemed pretty adequate for all of my needs, from simple gaming to full-on media production.
Of course, the rear IO changed when this happened. The board came with built-in USB 3.1 and WiFi.
Shortly before this I had also added a hotswap bay to the PC. I had painted the lock mechanism white. Eventually the push arm to release HDDs from it broke, so now it's just an odd HDD bay. The bay houses a 2TB 3.5" Seagate HDD.
I also added a DVD drive from a scrap PC. I have yet to replace it with a blu-ray drive. Believe it or not, I still enjoy having a nice optical drive.
I also just added a second GTX 970 (SSC this time) and have run SLI. This is also posted in a separate thread so I won't go into it here.
My PC's current (as of this post) market value for new parts would be over $2000. Not shabby. At this point I need to stop though, otherwise I'll end up going full custom loop water cooling and then I'll really be in trouble.
