    CPU Bus Speed Question

Update: Well boys. Now this is definitely resolved! I simply renabled XMP (click off and on) and then clicked on 'No' when it asked me to enable BCLK preset 100,8. Something happened when I first enabled XMP when I sat up this computer, even though the BIOS tells me otherwise. Now I ran cpuz and it's now hovering around 100MHz, 99,5 - 100,03. Yay!

Original message: Hello. I ran CPU-Z today on a Intel 9700K Z390 system and noticed that the Bus Speed is not at 100MHz, but instead fluctuating between 100,73-100,83 MHz. I think the BCLK is higher or something sine the memory is running XMPs @3200MHz (I think it wanted me to increase it when enabling XMP). Is this something to be worried about? Should it be closer to 100,00? Or is this fine? I heard BCLKs is hard to get stable, so I wanted to ask here if anyone knows if this is OK. Thanks.

There will always be a bit of drift in all of the frequencies. The on board oscillators are not perfect and will drift 30 to 50 parts per million as they work.

It's really nothing to worry about. All computers and clocked devices suffer from this issue. It's totally normal.

Right, but I think the bclk has increased when I enabled XMP to 3200MHz CL16. Usually the base should fluctuate between 99,98-100,01 MHz, mine is clearly over as you can see, which I guess is my question, if this is Ok? Or should I expect instabilities within a 0,80MHz margin bclk difference? Not sure why the XMProfile increased the bclk, but it did.

Yes it is okay. Perfectly normal.

Not that I don't believe you, but could you elaborate? AFAIK, bclk overclocks everything. Even the RAM is 26,56MHz over its threshold. I also heard it could lead to data loss? I didn't find much if the z390 chips are only cpu and ram dependent, or if it affects pci-e lanes aswell, which apparently Intel changed for SKylake. Sorry, I'm completely new to overclocking really so I need to make sure since this is not my computer I'm messing with.

Its fine, if you manually enter the RAM settings instead of XMP, it may be closer to what your looking for.

What about data loss? I heard even a slight change to it can cause issues even for sata drives. And is it possible to enable XMP without increasing the bclk? or will that lead to issues? I think can click "no" when it asks me in BIOS.

As Bro67 said, its normal to fluctuate. Setting manual RAM will give you the 98-100.xx range

Ok, this is weird. I checked the BIOS and the BCLK is set at 100,00MHz. The problem for me is that it NEVER fluctuates at 100,00, it's always above it at 100,73 to 100,86. To me that seems like a lot because everyone else tells me it should stay at 100,00 with very small differences - like 0,08 or 0,16 -,not 1MHz? This makes me really nervous. Even others pics on a 9700K shows 99,98 or 100,00MHz Bus Speed in CPU-Z, why is mine so much over?

Not every CPU is going to perform as the others that came out of that batch or other batches. The same reason that the same model of car or engine is going to perform the same.
