Windows Update screwed up my PC: Overclocking failed! (RAM)

    My RAM is G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

As you can see, it is advertised as 1600MHz. A lot of people have been having problems about it being set to 1333MHz on the BIOS, so I had to specify 1600MHz when I built my PC.

Just now, I woke up with my PC mysteriously shut down -- I left it running before I sleep. When I tried turning it on, I saw this:

I went into the BIOS and saw that my DRAM Frequency has been set back to 1333MHz -- so that's what the overclocking failure was about. I exited and went through with Windows bootup, and I saw that Windows Update was prepping my PC. So now, what else could I blame?

I clearly remember rescheduling that update to Saturday morning, actually, but there wasn't any button to "Save" the re-schedule; so I was under the impression that it saved automatically. But anyway, it updated during the time I didn't want it to, and it keeps on making my RAM fail.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? If anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    Fixed

    Nevermind. I panicked.

So apparently, my PC's XMP profile configuration was reset for some reason. Still, I blame Windows 10 update because nothing else could've happened -- if it was a power interruption, I'm on UPS.

Whoever moved my topic, this isn't really about overclocking. This is about Windows 10 Update messing with my UEFI. Probably worth a read on the Windows Update section for those who may be experiencing the same thing...

Did you check event viewer to make sure you didn't get any bsod overnight.

Will check later when I get home. I was on a hurry to get to work, which is also why I panicked lol. Thanks

    Saw this though

Not sure if that's a BSOD, but it's 2 hours after the scheduled restart.

Anyway, I have a feeling that Windows 10 Update updated my UEFI too. I don't remember setting XMP before, and manually configuring RAM frequency worked. Now it wants me to set XMP rather than manually configure it.

Oh well... what's important is that it's fixed now anyway. :)

    glad to hear its fixed.
mostly the bsod was caused becaused you manually configured the ram ( incorrect timings or voltage).
