    SMB commands

Execute these commands from Command Prompt (Admin)

    To disable SMB2&3:-

    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi

    sc.exe config mrxsmb10 start= auto

    ------------------
    To enable SMB2&3

    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi

    sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= auto
I have tried this already. It make works for some days. But after that, everything goes bad again.

    Possible Temporary Fix

I upgraded a desktop to Windows 10 today and lost my NAS and access to a Windows XP machine I share files on. (A Windows 7 laptop was seen by the upgraded machine, and it could see the upgraded machine. A Windows XP machine was not seen, did not see the upgraded machine..) I tried all the solutions here, but they did not work for me. I found the following on another forum which (so far) has worked:

Networking not working after Windows 10 Update (version 1511, build 10586.3) VirtualRick

Essentially it is "netcfg -d" at the command line, which does a cleanup of all networking devices. But read through the comments below it, as it may not last through the next time you use Windows "Restart" instead of Shutdown. Also close the command window before restarting. :)

    Network

My 2 main work PC's were just upgraded to Build 14257 release 160131.

    This gets stranger.
I can now see and access my laptop from the Desktop. I can go right to the User Folder and access everything.
When I try to access the Desktop, it shows the desktop but says it's empty.
Seems like every time we get an update, something different happens but the problem is never resolved.

Don't see that here. All user files are accessible with Everyone set to allow Full Control.

I can report that all 5 of my Win 10 machines (3 Home, 2 Pro) received Cumulative Update KB3124262 and with that update which reportedly fixes many Windows bugs, all my machines can now discover each other, they all appear in File Explorer view and Network view and most important they all are fully accessible to shared folders.

Anyone else experience this good fortune?

But, can they see Linux shares? Mine certainly can't.

And, if they are not the master browser, do they get error 1231 with Net View? Mine certainly do.

In Explorer, with View set to Details, and with column Discovery added, if you click the down arrow on Discovery do you get NetBIOS as well as WSD and SSDP options? Mine don't which is why they don't see Linux shares.

Certainly in my case, great good fortune is not here yet.

It all works in my 14257 Insider comps but not the release 1511 ones.

Where do you see column discovery? And what does it do?

To disable SMB2 and SMB3 on client and server follow the instructions in this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2696547
I did it and it worked wonders.

    linw.

Yes I can view/access Linux shares. I have a FreeNAS box attached to my network which could not be viewed prior to the update mentioned. Now this device is present and fully accessible.

I have not checked the other things you ask about as the update came just as I was leaving out of town but when I return I will check and post back. Cannot check the PC I am on right now as I am on a public network.

I do have a good feeling about this though as in the past I had only partial success in viewing networked computers. Could always access them manually as most here can. In my case my Win 10 Pro installs gave me the most problems. As soon as both of those machines got this update it all started working, no more missing computers from my network.

Like I say, I will check out net view and discovery list on all machines when I return home and report back.

Very interesting, Railtech. If you can see NAS/Linux shares it makes one wonder what is the magic difference between your setup and others like mine.

Look forward to hearing back from you later.
