I had the settings for both 2.4 and 5 GHz set to auto per default. I have posted my screenshots. Thanks for all the information folks. But after struggling with the router yesterday, I just took the thing back and am now using my original N56-RTU. The router's interface was lousy and very difficult to navigate. Just not worth the trouble IMO.
In order for Wireless-ac to work, both bands have to have the same SSID. Also you have to set the channels properly, because the newer firmwares are coming with Band Sterring and also they have given back the DFS bands.
If you do not set the A/P up properly, it will not work.
Also there are still millions of wireless devices that use Wireless-g. The N is so that with 5GHz, you end up with two channels for the device to have for when it connects, it will use the 2.4 then go to 5 if the signal is strong enough. As you get farther away the signal drops, but you stay connected to the Access Point.
The point is that so far as I have seen is that people are just tossing information out there that does not fix the problem and causes other issues.

I'm much too kind to say what I think you should do -- but a basic course IMO of Networking 101 wouldn't go amiss.
Perhaps a trip to Spain with the next Bull run (Pamplona St.Fermin festival)

Yes they come with a CD with the manual on them. Most people just toss it and wing the setup, then come here to have us do the work of replacing what the manual is for.
5 may be turned off or may be on. The problem is that people do not use a search engine for the answer. We are expected to be here to also replace the search engines. I do not mind if they are running into a situation that there is not anything about it out there. Setting up the newer Access Points have gotten so easy now, that a 6 year old can do it.
With manufacturers starting to add Band Steering on Access Points, both SSID's have to be the same. Even if you do not use Band Steering, some like the Engenius EAP1750H require that you use the same SSID for both 2.4 & 5, along with 40 for Channel Bandwidth for the 2.4 radio, 80 for the 5ghz radio. Otherwise you are not going to get the proper speeds, along with the fact that if it is the only Access Point in the house and you happen to have Wireless-n devices, you can split the load between 2.4 & 5.
This is not some battle of who is better at this. It is now about going through and stopping bad habits being used when 5ghz equipment first came out.
If you want to only run your A/P at 5hz, that is your choice. In my case I have to run it as I stated, otherwise my Laser Printer and wifi controlled thermostat will not connect, because they are looking for a 2.4ghz radio and work with the g/n bands.
When I go 150' from my house. I may end up having my phone automatically placed on the 2.4ghz channel and will still keep a connection and get the speeds that I expect from my setup.
